FINISHES & MAINTENANCE

Polished on the top and edges. Handmade in Madagascar.
No special maintenance required. Preferably, use warm water and mild detergent on an uncolored soft cloth for cleaning. Sealer products and wax can be used like usual process applied on other marbles and granites.
Do not use strong chemical products with high Ph. Avoid to put hot materials directly on the Gem Surfaces^®. Avoid to scratch the surfaces with metal or abrasive materials.

More about Septarian Surface

Septarian is a beautiful stone. Honey-colored calcite with unique tell-tale patterning. Arguably the most impressive design available for a Gem Surface. Traditional importance as a US gemstone, with material found in Utah. Septarian is part of our gemstone marble collection, and harness needs to be taken into account. Hardness is 3, which is identical to common marble.

Septarian nodules are unique in that they were formed as a result of volcanic eruptions and attracted dead sea life chemically bonding them to the sediment and forming mud balls. They are composed of Calcite, which makes up the yellow centers and Aragonite which are the brown lines. The outer grey rock is Limestone.
The name Septarian comes from the Latin word "septum" meaning seven, or “saeptum” which means a wall or enclosure. As the balls dried they shrank inside and had a tendency to create a distinctive pattern of 7 points in every direction.
